This race is the brain child of Paul Gill, Dori Robertson and Larry Taylor. We grew up in an era where "the mile" was a prestigious event and we felt like it would be fun to have a family oriented event focusing on the mile. We have included many age groups so all ages can participate only against their peers. We hope that will encourage long term involvement in fitness based activities. We also feel that the mile is a good mix of endurance and speed therefore a fun race for old and young. We included the free throw event to encourage less serious runners to come on out and have some fun while getting a basic introduction to our running club. Some of our most avid volunteers and accomplished athletes will be at this race. So its a good opportunity to see what we are doing to help promote fitness in the community through our club. Yet we've designed the format to encourage the best runners to come win the traveling trophy and/or some money. Don't be afraid of the track. 2009 was our inaugural event and all who participated went away saying "see you next year."
The event will be based around running the mile. There will also be free throw shooting contests and many cash and gift certificate drawings throughout the day. We also have scholarship drawings for male/female in the amount of $500 for any graduating senior that runs the mile. We will award $100 for fast time of the day (Must run the elite race to be eligible) plus $100 for breaking the record (male and female). We will also award "The Traveling Trophy" for the fastest time of the day (male and female). There will be awards for winning your age group in the free throw shooting contest as well. We will provide snacks, fruit and drinks for all so come out and enjoy the event. We look forward to seeing you there.
